Who & Why

Find out who we are and why we do this: About us

1921, 1959, 1971 and 1976 are the great vintages for German Riesling. And 1975 - ofter forgotten but equal in quality. Here we have "Staatsweingüter Eltville / Kloster Eberbach" which is very famous for its old vintages from 40s to 70s.

And we have the vineyard "Steinberg" which is perhaps the best one in the Rheingau and the only one which is enclosed completely by a stone wall like a Burgundian Clos.

1975 has a little bit less power as 1976, but more acidity. So it should last better than 1976. With Auslese we are on the safe side that the wine has matured well. If you like to have more power and sweetness then you need to pick Beerenauslese, Eiswein or Trockenbeerenauslese.

Staasweingüter Eltville 1975 Steinberger Riesling Auslese: With amber colour, notes of myrrh and nut, it is medium-bodied with a light sweetness, medium to long length and a good complexity. 18/20 points.
