Two days ago we got the new wines from our Kongsgaard mailing list. Again great stuff?
A lot of great wines from California are not available in Europe or only in tiny quantaties or if you are a member of a wine club. But fortunately many wineries offer a mailing list where you can order once or twice a year a certain allocation. Meanwhile we have subscribed to the mailing lists of Kistler, Occidental, Peter Michael, Morlet, Martinelli and Kongsgaard. Some of them send directly to Germany, for some you need a service provider like Aeropacking. You have to add the costs for transport and local taxes (in Germany Mehrwertsteuer) but the high quality of the Californian wines are worth it.
Two days ago the wines from Kongsgaard arrived. We know that this wines can be drunken young and we were so curious that we just opened some bottles.
Kongsgaard 2018 Sauvignon Blanc: We should have waited. This wine is far to young, but even in this stage you can notice the high quality: Very fruity and precise, it is full-bodied, dense, cremy, mineralic and elegant. It will need minimum 3 years more age and has a lot of potential. 18.5/20 points.
Kongsgaard 2017 Viorous: Unfortunately this wine is very limited. We only got one bottle. It is a perfect mixture of Viognier and Roussanne. Viognier brings the fragrant and aromatic part while Roussanne adds a density and creaminess. With nutmeg, flowers and rose petals in the nose, you get a full-bodied, structured, fresh, long, balanced, phenolic wine with lots of glycerine and a perfect fun factor. You cannot resists this wine. 19.3/20 points.
The Kongsgaard 2016 Chardonnay The Judge is absolute perfection. You cannot make a Chardonnay any better, the wine carries you away. It has a complex nose of lime, apricot, peach, caramel, vanilla and crushed rocks and it is extemely balanced, mineralic with a long finish, a perfect structure and a lot of glycerin. While it is phenolic, dense and powerful, it is light-footed and elegant at the same time. Wow! 20/20 points.
