Today there is Riesling from the Rheingau, Rheinhessen and Alsace. Of all the great white wines, Riesling still has the best price-performance ratio.
The Peter Jakob Kühn 2014 Riesling Schlehdorn is a top wine from a rather average year. But this year, too, the winery has produced a sensational wine. The wine needs a long aeration and continues to develop in the opened but sealed bottle within a week in the refrigerator. The wine has toasted notes, herbs, incense, resin and after a week also caramel and white chocolate. It has full body, oily texture, almost long finish, perfect balance, oily density, some tannin and gets better with air. This is a sensational character Riesling. 18.8/20 points.
The Zind-Humbrecht 2011 Riesling Brand (Indice 1) has orange zest, orange oil, blossoms, apricot, toasty notes, full body, high complexity and is dry, very oily, juicy, dense, and balanced. 18.8/20 points.
The Kühling-Gillot 2010 Nackenheimer Rothenberg Riesling GG Wurzelecht has orange, white chocolate, some quince, apricot, some bergamot, pine needles, medium body, strong but balanced acidity and is fresh, very dense, long, balanced, very complex and oily. The wine needs a long aeration. The wine is from ungrafted vines. 19.5/20 points.
