Two Chardonnays and a Zinfandel from California are our wines this time.
The Martinelli 2017 Zio Tony Ranch Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley needs a lot of aeration, better 2-3 hours than less. The wine also has a hint of vegetal notes at first, but improves with air with vanilla, herbs, roasted notes, butter, white chocolate and caramel. The wine has 15.4% ABV, but you don't notice it at all. This is an archetypal Californian with full body, perfect balance, high density and a long finish. 18.8/20 points.
The Kongsgaard 2021 Chardonnay is clearly different from the 2020. It is more elegant and more European in style, similar to a modern Burgundy. The wine has toasted notes, roasted hazelnuts, butter and is dense, complex, balanced and extremely elegant. 19.3/20 points.
Here we have another Martinelli: The Martinelli 2018 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa. We would like to know how wines can have so much alcohol without you tasting it. The wine is expressive with raspberry, blackberry, butter, full body, some earthy notes, balance and a long finish. The fruit sweetness and power is overwhelming. 18.5/20 points.
