Who & Why

Find out who we are and why we do this: About us

We start with two Rieslings from Keller and then have perhaps the best red wine in Austria in our glass. Is it really that good?

For a great Riesling from Keller, you don't necessarily have to go for a Großes Gewächs: The Klaus Keller 2021 Riesling RR is expressive with sweetish notes, blossoms, lots of exotic fruits such as papaya, mango, pineapple and passion fruit, medium body and perfect balance. The wine is mineral, fresh, long and needs a lot of aeration in the decanter. 18/20 points.

The Klaus Keller 2016 Westhofener Riesling R seems much younger than the 2021 Riesling RR and is a young, fresh and classic Riesling with apricot, peach, medium body, balance and is long, juicy due to its crisp acidity and minerality. 17/20 points.

The exact grape composition is a secret, but it probably combines Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot: the Pöckl 2019 Mystique is still far too young and will need years to reach optimum maturity. The wine must be decanted and then still requires a very large wine glass such as the Zalto Burgundy. The wine has an impenetrable purple color, the 15% ABV is not noticeable and the expressive nose consists of rosewood, blackberry, some coffee and dark fruits. The wine is complex and fine, with a full body, lots of fine tannin almost like a Nebbiolo, dense, long and perfectly balanced. The wine has a lot of potential and still needs 1-2 decades to reach its peak. Currently 18.8/20 points, with further maturity even more.
