NEW: Praise and blame of corked wines

Sauvignon Blanc from Germany is getting better and better. Let's taste the winners of the "Falstaff Sauvignon Blanc Trophy 2025".

The Dönnhoff 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Pouri is reminiscent of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in style. The wine is extremely expressive with a very intense nose of gooseberry, a hint of grass, cassis, and phenolic notes. It is dense, long, and balanced, but only moderately complex. 17.8/20 points.

The Jülg 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Opus Oskar is clearly influenced by its aging in new wood. The wine has gooseberry, mint, some wood, light vanilla sweetness, medium to full body, some tannin, and is balanced, fresh, very long, dense, creamy, and phenolic. 18.8/20 points.

The Schnaitmann 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Réserve is a wine with character that is not recognizable as a Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has forest fire, ichthyol, iodine, full body, and is salty-mineral, long, and dense. The wine has its own character and a lot of power. 18.5-18.8/20 points.
