NEW: Praise and blame of corked wines

Now it is time for Nebbiolo and Bordeaux.

The Vietti 2016 Barolo Riserva is a classic Barolo, but aged for seven years in wooden barrels. This gives it polished tannins and an elegant character. The wine has an expressive nose with lots of strawberry and herbs, full body, structure, a long finish, and powerful tannins that are only noticeable in the finish. 18.5/20 points.

California Cabernet is becoming increasingly expensive, while prices for Bordeaux are falling. This makes Bordeaux interesting again. The Château Figeac 2016 St. Emilion Grand Cru Classe has cassis, whiskey barrel, slightly earthy notes, full body, lots of fruit, and is very complex, dense, long, and balanced. 19.3/20 points.

Since the takeover by Giacomo Conterno, this is probably where the best Gattinara is produced: the Nervi 2016 Gattinara Molsino is the winery's top wine. The wine needs plenty of air and has blood and some animal notes at first, then blackberry, violet, blueberry, some phenolic notes, full body, medium to long finish, and sufficient tannins. The wine is still very young and has a lot of potential. 18.5/20 points.
