Here we have some new releases from Giacomo Conterno.
A few years ago, we drank Erpacrife Nebbiolo Brut Rose, a rose sparkling wine made from Nebbiolo. Now, more and more rosé and sparkling wines made from Nebbiolo are coming onto the market, including from Nervi, a winery that now belongs to Giacomo Conterno. The Nervi – Giacomo Conterno 2018 Spumante Rosato Zero Dosage Jefferson 1787 has a restrained nose with blossoms, medium to full body, structure, some tannin, and is dense, phenolic, and fresh, but also a bit edgy. 16.5/20 points. This is the first vintage. Apparently, they have learned a lot in the meantime, and we recommend the current 2020 vintage.
The Giacomo Conterno 2021 Barbara d'Alba Francia has cherry, some Passito notes, full body, acidity, and is somewhat alcoholic, long, and spicy. We expected a little more. 16.5/20 points.
The Giacomo Conterno 2021 Nebbiolo d'Alba Arione comes from the Arione vineyard, but from vines outside the Barolo region. The wine has blossoms and violet notes, medium body, structure, and is balanced and long. 17.5/20 points.
