The Salwey 2022 Steingrubenberg Chardonnay Großes Gewächs is very balanced and elegant, not a powerful wine, but nevertheless with high density and intensity. The wine has vanilla, blossoms, butter, smoky notes, full body, present but not unpleasant acidity, and is creamy, dense, fresh, long, and mineral. This makes it one of the top German Chardonnays. 18.3/20 points.
The Salwey 2022 Oberrotweiler Kirchberg Weissburgunder Großes Gewächs is one of the best Weissburgunder in Germany. The wine has immense inner density and minerality, butter, blossoms, pear, smoky notes, full body, and is very mineral, fine, medium to long, elegant, fresh, and precise. 18.5/20 points.
The Salwey 2022 Oberrotweiler Henkenberg Grauburgunder Großes Gewächs polarizes. The wine needs a lot of aeration and only really reaches its peak after several days. The wine has black tea, blossoms, some mango, full body, some tannin, medium length, and is fresh, mineral, and balanced. This wine has nothing to do with the rich Grauburgunder, but is fresh and balanced. 17-18.5/20 points.
The Salwey 2022 Oberrotweiler Eichberg Grauburgunder Großes Gewächs is equally polarizing. Very restrained at first, the nose only develops after hours or days. The wine is fresh and mineral with great structure, but not fat. 17.5-18.5/20 Points.
The Salwey 2022 Oberrotweiler Eichberg Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs impresses with its great structure and complexity. The wine has strawberry, cherry, roasted notes, blackberry, earthy notes, full body, structure, lots of polished tannins, and is dense, long, and mineral. 18.5/20 points.
The Salwey 2022 Oberrotweiler Henkenberg Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs is an intense fruit bomb with decadent fruit sweetness. The wine has lots of sweet strawberry notes, earthy notes, mocha, full body, lots of fine tannins, and is very balanced and long. We are not sure about its shelf life. What will happen when the beguiling primary fruit is gone? Nevertheless, 18.8/20 points.
The Salwey 2022 Oberrotweiler Kirchberg Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs is the most complete red wine of the three Grand Crus. The wine combines the structure of the Eichberg with the fruit of the Henkenberg, but is a touch more restrained and elegant. The wine has mocha, cherry, full body, dark barrique, structure, and is balanced, long, complex, and elegant. Here, we suspect great potential and longevity. 19/20 points, making it one of the best Spätburgunder in Germany.
