Syrah from France, Germany and California are tested now.
Syrah from Germany is getting better and better, as demonstrated by the Martin Waßmer 2019 Dottinger Castellberg Syrah. The wine is opulent with lots of white pepper, licorice, blackberry, full body, tannins, and is long and expressive. 19/20 points.
The Johann Michel 2018 Cornas Mere Michel is complex and masculine with a slight animalic note. The wine has cherry, black cherry, full body, fine tannins, power, and is long and dense. A typical Cornas. 19/20 points.
The Martinelli 2019 Russian River Syrah Lolita Ranch is typical of the winery with high alcohol content, without tasting it. The wine has lots of sweet cherry notes, strawberry, herbs, raspberry, mocha, some dark fruit, cream caramel candy, dark toast, full body, lots of decadent fruit sweetness, and is balanced, long, and complex. 19.3/20 points.
The Salwey 2022 Syrah is actually still a little too young, but it's already enjoyable. The wine has raspberry, white pepper, full body, and is fresh, long, and balanced. It needs air and must be decanted. 18.8/20 points.
The Les Vins de Vienne 2010 Cornas Les Barcillants has blackberry, raspberry, dates, licorice, animal notes, full body, lots of fine tannins, and is balanced and long. 18.5/20 points.
