NEW: Praise and blame of corked wines

2016 seems to be another promissing year.

The Battenfeld-Spanier 2016 Mölsheimer Zellerweg Am Schwarzen Herrgott Riesling Großes Gewächs is somewhat Mosel-like with its minerality and crisp acidity. The wine is an archetypal Riesling with apricot, peach, grapefruit, medium body, long finish, balance, and a slight residual sweetness, which together with the acidity creates an almost Mosel-like sweetness-acidity interplay. 18.8/20 points.

The Peter Jakob Kühn 2016 Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus Riesling Großes Gewächs has apricot, peach, vanilla, notes of new wood, and an almost full body. The wine is creamy and balanced and needs some time to open up. 18.3/20 points.

Both wines are fresh and appear much younger. After 2015, 2016 seems to be the next sensational vintage for German Riesling.
