This time, we have two older wines that should be great.
The Bollinger 1969 Vintage Brut is impressive. It has notes of Spanish brandy and trumpet vine, some earthy undertones, a medium body, perfect balance, a long finish, structure, blossom sweetness, a slight bitterness, and still tastes fresh and vibrant. 18.8/20 points.
The Gaja 1979 Barbaresco Costa Russi is clearly recognizable as a Nebbiolo and has moss, cherry, and blackberry notes, a full body, plenty of fine tannins, structure, a long finish, density, and will remain at this level for many years to come. The wine needs air and should be decanted. 18.8/20 points.
