NEW: Praise and blame of corked wines

Today we have Schlossberg from Breuer, Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spätlese RR and an old Banyuls.

The Georg Breuer 2016 Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling Großes Gewächs is actually a bit too young and has potential, but can already be drunk now. The wine has predominantly grapefruit, but also floral, herbal, apricot, and peach notes, almost full body, balance, power, and a long, mineral finish. 18.8/20 points.

The Koehler-Ruprecht 2007 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spätlese trocken RR appears fresh and youthful, and its age is hard to believe. The wine is initially somewhat reserved and needs plenty of air in the decanter, but then develops quince and floral notes, medium body, perfect balance, and some oak influence. The wine is clean and precise, spicy, phenolic, and still has a lot of potential. It is now beginning to reach its drinking window. 19/20 points.

The Domaine du Mas Blanc (Docteur Parcé) 1966 Banyuls Collection is a complex dessert wine, fortified to 17% ABV. The wine is somewhat lighter than a vintage port, but has a high degree of complexity, lots of chocolate and cherry, tobacco, full body, balance, and becomes even more complex with aeration. 19/20 points.
