We taste one classic Dunn Howell Mountain, vintage 1996, and a great Spätburgunder from Zehnthof-Luckert
Randy Dunn’s wines from the 1990s are so distinctive that they are instantly recognizable in a blind tasting. The 1996 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception, featuring his signature notes of oyster shell, cassis, and animalic nuances. This full-bodied wine is highly mineral, balanced, and possesses a long finish. 19.3/20 points.
The 2022 Zehnthof Luckert Maustal Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs ranks among Germany’s greatest Spätburgunder — and, as such, is instantly recognizable in a blind tasting. The wine offers notes of raspberry, cherry, and a hint of strawberry, alongside dark toast, a touch of Amarena cherry, and a whisper of coconut; medium-to-full-bodied, it is balanced, complex, long, and mineral-driven. 19/20 points.
