NEW: Praise and blame of corked wines

Today there is a sparkling, a Riesling, a Zinfandel and a Marsala con Uovo.

The Feudi di San Gregorio NV Dubl is not defined by the heat of Campania but is instead a magnificent Champagne-style sparkling wine. It offers notes of blossoms, honey, lime, and a touch of brioche; it is balanced, mineral-driven, and highly drinkable, with medium body and length. 17.5/20 points.

The Battenfeld-Spanier 2016 Riesling C.O. Liquid Earth is actually still a bit too young. It shows great potential but needs plenty of air. It displays notes of blossoms, lime, citrus, and exotic fruits; it is powerful, mineral-driven, and long, with a medium-to-full body. Currently 19.3/20 points; likely to score higher with further aging.

The Martinelli 2019 Zinfandel Jackass Hill is an archetypal Martinelli Zinfandel - instantly recognizable in a blind tasting. It features notes of cassis, gamey nuances, blueberries, and bacon, along with the fruit sweetness typical of Martinelli. Full-bodied and balanced, it is long, dense, mineral-driven, and dry, with only a very slight hint of alcohol (despite 16.6% ABV). 19.3/20 points.

The Riccadonna Marsala all’Uovo dates back to the 1960s, making it approximately 60 years old. Aged Marsala all'Uovo is a hidden gem; with maturation, it loses some of its sweetness while gaining complexity. The wine is intense, featuring notes of hazelnut, herbs, and chocolate. 19/20 points.
