We have no great expectations for the bottle of Leroy; the cork is leaking, and the fill level is poor (4.5 cm below the cork). Nevertheless, we open it out of curiosity. And we have a Clos du Val.
The Leroy – Domaine d’Auvernay 1996 Meursault Les Narvaux displays notes of caramel and nuts; it is medium-to-full-bodied, nutty, mineral-driven, somewhat austere, complex, and balanced. The wine is mature but enjoyable to drink. 18/20 points for the experience.
The Clos du Val 1984 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon tastes similar to a Dunn Howell Mountain but is lighter and more elegant. It features notes of plaka, powdered sugar, and rosehip; it is full-bodied with a hint of fruit sweetness, mineral-driven, balanced, and shows slight animalistic nuances. This is a wine with great character. 18.8/20 points.
