NEW: Praise and blame of corked wines

2021 is a stellar year for Barolo and perhaps the best vintage since 2016. We are tasting three Barolos from renowned producers.

The Domenico Clerico 2021 Barolo Ciabot Mentin features blossom notes, abundant cherry, and powdered sugar; it is full-bodied with lovely fruit and plenty of polished tannins - dense, long, and balanced. 18.8/20 points.

The E. Pira & Figli 2021 Barolo Cannubi is a powerful wine offering blossom notes, herbs, and cherry; it is full-bodied with significant tannins, fine structure, and great density. The wine is balanced, long, and phenolic. 19.3/20 points.

The Sandrone 2021 Barolo Le Vigne combines modern fruit sweetness with traditional structure, displaying cherry, herbs, full body, tannins, and fine structure. The wine is phenolic, long, dense, and polished. 19.3/20 points.

These wines are already enjoyable to drink but possess great potential for further development and cellaring.
