This time we have two Chardonnays from California and Germany and two Rieslings from Germany.
Do you like ripe wines? The Peter Michael 2014 Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille is surprisingly ripe with caramel, baked apple and powdered sugar. The wine has a full-body, an oily density, a long finish and power. 17.5/20 points if you like ripe wine.
The Thörle 2015 Chardonnay Reserve has lime, pineapple, papaya and some other exotic fruits. It is a modern and elegant wine with full-body, a fresh acidity and phenolic. 17.5/20 points.
The Vollenweider 2018 Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Aurum is a typical Mosel Riesling, light-footed and mineral but also characterful. With ichthyol, slate, peach, liquorice and toasted and animal notes, the wine has medium body and perfect balance. 18.5/20 points.
The highlight of the long evening was the Battenfeld-Spanier 2017 Mölsheimer Zellerweg Riesling Am Schwarzen Herrgott. You can't stop drinking the wine. The wine starts with flowers, apricot, peach and powdered sugar. It has full-body, density, mineral, a perfect balance and a slight sweetness. The wine is light-footed and oh so drinkable. 19.3/20 points.
