This time: High quality sweet wines for Christmas.
2001 is one of the best vintages for Sauternes and Barsac and so is Ch. Climens 2001 Barsac 1er Cru Classe: full-body, very dense, sweet, complex, enourmous power with a long finish and a lot of lovely flavors like butter, honey, blossoms and coconut. You can drink it now but it will last for decades. 19.5/20 points.
If you like you sweet wine balanced by acidity then Staatsweingüter Eltville 1975 Assmannshäuser Höllenberg Spätburgunder Weissherbst Beerenauslese is your wine. 1975 was a great year for German sweet Rieslings, especially the high acidity gave the sweet wines a perfect balance. The wine has strawberry, bacon, rose hip and a bit of honey, an almost full-body, density, a long finish and it is very complex. 18.8/20 points.
The Quintarelli 1997 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico is nearly perfection. It is an archetypal Recioto with power, complexity and a perfect balance. It has dates, dried fruits, plums and amarena, a full-body, density and a long finish. 19.8/20 points.
