Who & Why

Wines are from Alphone Mellot, Francois Villard, Charles Joguet, Bartolo Mascarello and Conterno-Fantino.

The Alphonse Mellot 2014 Sancerre Cuvée Edmond is at the end of its life, although 2014 was a great vintage in the Loire. The wine has lost its fruit and is now very phenolic with lots of elder wood. The wine has full body, a long finish and is dense and mineral. This character wine is polarizing. From 14/20 to 18/20 points.

The Francois Villard 2014 Cornas Jouvet is an archetypal Cornas with spice, density, animalism, white pepper, full body and a long finish. The wine is very balanced, dense and elegant. 18.5/20 points.

The Charles Joguet 2014 Chinon Clos de la Dioterie has plaka, red currants, full body, long finish and is dense, mineral and balanced. 18.5/20 points.

2014 was a difficult vintage in Piedmont, as it rained in the middle of the harvest period. The Bartolo Mascarello 2014 Barolo shows that this vintage nevertheless produced great wines. The wine has blossoms, rosehip, dried rose petals, some tar, full body and is very balanced and elegant. 18.5/20 points.

The Conterno-Fantino 2014 Barolo Sori Ginestra was harvested before the rains, so it has full power but also some green notes. The wine has black fruit, phenolic notes, full body, balance and medium length. 18.5/20 points if you don't mind the green notes.
