Who & Why

Find out who we are and why we do this: About us

Today we taste a Belle Epoque as well as Nebbiolo from the 2019 vintage.

I would have expected more from the Perrier-Jouet 1999 Belle Epoque, as this is not a cheap champagne. The Champagne has a fine perlage and a powerful nose with hazelnut, some nougat and lilac. The nose promises more than the palate delivers with medium to full body, a nice freshness, a medium-long finish and just a little fruit. This is a classic aperitif Champagne. 17.8/20 points.

It's amazing that the Ada Nada 2019 Barbaresco Elisa (Rombone) is so much fun so young. The wine has an opulent nose with raspberry, cherry, violet, with aeration also powdered sugar and red currant, a full body, a long finish and a nice minerality. The wine is light on its feet and very fruity with lots of polished tannin which is perfectly integrated. 18.8/20 points.

The Scarpa 2019 Barbaresco Tettineive is a bit more classic, but can be drunk with pleasure already. The wine has plaka, dried rose petals, full body, a long finish, nice structure and plenty of polished tannin. You can see Scarpa's house style, but this wine is more polished and open than older vintages. 18.3/20 points.

The Scarpa 2019 Barolo Tettimorra shows its potential, but the wine is much too young and closed now. It has plenty of tannin and a long finish, but will need 5-10 years to show its full potential. Now 18/20 points.
