Who & Why

Find out who we are and why we do this: About us

This time there is wine from Baden, Palatinate and Loire.

The Belargus 2020 Anjou Les Quarts is aromatically somewhat restrained with wax, a little tar, blossoms and some nutmeg, but has a full body, a long finish and is dense, persistent, light-footed, very mineral, precise, clean and balanced. 19/20 points.

The Salwey 2016 Sieben Winter spent seven winters on the fine lees and was bottled in 04/2023. The wine is very interesting, fresh, mineral and has blossoms, sweetish notes, cloves and some pink grapefruit, almost full body, density and a long finish. The long lees ageing provides a strong creaminess. 17.3/20 points.

The high quality of the Friedrich Becker 2019 Chardonnay Mineral is immediately apparent, as is the fact that it does not come from California or Burgundy. The wine has a powerful nose with apricot and vanilla, full body, lots of extract and is dense, phenolic and mineral. The high acidity is somewhat surprising at first, but it gives the wine freshness and backbone and should ensure a long life. This wine of character has great potential. 18.5/20 points with potential for more.

The Salwey 2020 Oberrotweiler Eichberg Pinot Noir has strawberry, cherry, some Amarena, medium to full body, structure, density, a long finish, balance and lots of sweet fruit on the palate. The quality is perceived differently with 17.5-18.8/20 points.

The Salwey 2020 Syrah shows that with global warming, the Kaiserstuhl is now the right place for Syrah. The high heat and dryness virtually predestine this grape variety and it will probably be too hot for Pinot Noir in the long run. The wine is very fruity, round and concentrated with violets, blackberry, cassis candy, full body, long finish and balance; 18.8/20 points.

The Ziereisen 2018 Jaspis Syrah 10^4 is probably the best Syrah in Germany at the moment. The wine initially has some sauerkraut, black pepper, leather, olives, some animalism, full body and a long finish. The wine is deep, dense, balanced, complex and reminiscent of the Cote Rotie. 19.3/20 points.
