Who & Why

There are great wines for a multi-course meal.

The Kistler 2012 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard is already very ripe, but has these sensational aromas of cream caramel, toffee and blossoms. The wine has density and power, full body, a long finish and is perfectly balanced. 18.8/20 points.

The Aubert 2014 Chardonnay Larry Hyde & Sons shows how well Californian Chardonnay can mature and hold up. The wine seems much younger. It has vanilla, blossoms, toast, pineapple, full body, lots of extract and is mineral, long, dense, balanced and fresh. 19/20 points.

The Château Pichon Baron 2000 Pauillac 2eme Cru Classe has a cool aroma with cassis, herbs and some eucalyptus, medium to full body and a long finish. The wine still seems relatively young and has tannin and a good structure. 18.5/20 points.

The Caymus 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary is at its peak now and certainly the best wine Caymus has made to date. The wine is opulent and complex, dense and with loads of fruit. The wine has elderberries, blackberries, red peppers, raisins, full body, lots of extract and density, perfect balance, a long finish and plenty of fruit sweetness. 19.5/20 points.

The Château Suduiraut 1982 Cuvée Madame Creme de Tete has a lot of mint, but also apricot, roasted notes and floor wax. The wine has medium-full to full body, balance and appears fresh and elegant despite a lot of sweetness and extract. 18.3/20 points.

Unfortunately, this quality is no longer produced by the winery: The Staatsweingüter Eltville 1975 Steinberger Riesling Spätlese Versteigerungswein is a very complex, light-footed wine with a slight sweetness and aromas of myrrh, cinnamon and apricot. The wine has a long finish and improves with air. This is an archetypal Riesling Spätlese from a great vintage. 18.3/20 points.
