Who & Why

Find out who we are and why we do this: About us

This time there is a Barolo from Giuseppe Mascarello, a Noon Eclipse and a Torres Gran Corona.

You want to drink a Barolo, but you don't like the tannin of Nebbiolo? The Giuseppe Mascarello 2015 Barolo Monprivato is a good wine, but it is not a real Barolo. It has only little tannin, a very soft structure and a nose with strawberry and herbs. The wine is balanced and elegant but tastes more like a Pinot Noir. 16/20 points for a wine, 0/20 for a Barolo.

The Noon 2018 Eclipse is a blend of 91% Grenache, 6% Graciano and 3% Shiraz. It has 16.3% vol. alcohol and is a powerful and dense wine with opulent fruit (especially raspberry), a lot of glycerin, a long finishand a resemblance to Zinfandel.  18.5/20 points.

The Torres 1964 Grand Corona Grand Reserva Black Label is a very ripe wine which still makes fun to drink. It has a fantastic nose of apple at the beginning and the animalic, powdered sugar, coffee and rosehip. It still has some tannin and structure and it is balanced with a medium long finish. 16.5/20 points.
