We compare the very rare "Traumzeit Großes Känguru" from W.E. Frank wines with one of the top Chardonnays of Kistler.
The grape variety Kerner is normally used for simple, sweet Spätlesen in Rheinhessen. But this Kerner, with an addition of 8% Riesling, is a modern, dry and classy wine: The W.E. Frank 2016 Traumzeit Großes Känguru was aged in Barrique and smells of blossoms, hints of vanilla, butter and honey. It is full-body, mineral, medium long finish and gets violets with aeration. Amazing stuff. Enjoy the bottle the day you open it. 18.3/20 points. More about this wine: W.E. Frank Wines - Großes Känguru
The Kistler 2016 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard Cuvée Cathleen bouquet gives you blossoms, especially broom and laburnum, lime and opens up with butter and white chocolate over time. It is full-body, mineral and a long finish. It is too young and will benefit with further cellaring. If you want to drink it now, you have to decant it. 19/20 points now and probably a bit more in some years.
