Who & Why

A sparkling wine made from Riesling with long yeast aging and a relatively young Champagne offer a very contrasting tasting this time.

The Peter Lauer 1992 Riesling Reserve Brut has disgorged 2022, so it was on its lees for nearly 30 years. This sparkling has a light perlage and smells strongly of honey, blossoms, some sherry and a bit of old cask. It has medium-body, balance, a medium long finish and slight residual sweetness. 18/20 points.

The Moncuit 2008 Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc Brut is a classic champagne with lots of fine perlage and fragrance of blossoms, nuts and yeast. It has a medium-body, balance, a medium to long finish, complexity, mineral and a freshness with some apple notes, and a beginning maturity for drinking. 18.5/20 points.
