The new Kistler Chardonnays 2020 from the mailing list just arrived. Both wines can be drunk now. But cellaring will reward more complexity and finesse.
The Kistler 2020 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard has vanilla, licorice, herbs, some caramel, some iodine, a full body, density and a long finish and is very balanced. The wine is the slightly more open of the two. 18.8/20 points.
The Kistler 2020 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard Cuvée Cathleen is a bit closed at first and opens up with vanilla, licorice and herbs with time and air. The wine has full body, high density and a long finish and is mineral and complex. It will need at least 5 years to reach its optimal drinking maturity. 19.3/20 points.
