There are Frühburgunder and Pinot Noir.
Frühburgunder is a red wine variety that was created by natural mutation from Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). It is very similar to Pinot Noir, but usually a bit earthier. One of the best Frühburgunder is the Rudolf Fürst 2015 Frühburgunder R. The wine has cherry, strawberry, slightly earthy notes, full body, balance, tannin, structure and an almost long finish. The wine has character and is phenolic on the finish. 18.5/20 points.
Often Burgundies are either very expensive or bad. And quite often both. The Dugat-Py 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux Vieilles Vignes shows once again how great Pinot Noir from Burgundy can be. The wine has cherry, some vanilla, tar, forest floor, mocha and slightly animal notes and needs a big glass such as the Zalto Burgundy. It is opulent and powerful with full body, great structure, power and long finish. At the same time the wine is very balanced, very elegant and complex. 19.3/20 points.
