There is a great champagne and a very ripe Rioja.
The current vintage Pierre Moncuit 2006 Vieilles Vignes Nicole Moncuit is a sensational champagne with brioche, blossoms, phenolic notes, medium body, perfect balance, a pleasant freshness and a medium-long finish. Although the champagne only has a dosage of 3 grams, it has a fruity sweetness. It is elegant and perfect to drink now, but should evolve for many years. 19/20 points.
Anyone who has always been looking for something from the 1957 vintage and likes ripe old wines will like the Marques de Riscal 1957 Reserva. The wine has an opaque hazelnut color and is initially a bit animalic, but with air it quickly acquires malt, coconut and herbs. The wine is medium bodied, balanced, with a medium long finish and still has a nice structure. This bottle has a fill level of MS (mid shoulder) and is perfectly aged. 18/20 points.
