Who & Why

Find out who we are and why we do this: About us

There is a Riesling and a Cabernet, none of them tastes like its grape variety.

The Carl von Schubert'sche Schlosskellerei 2011 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Fusion has blossoms, honey, phenolic notes, with air also vanilla, medium to full body, high density, and is very salty mineral. The wine has seen new wood and does not taste like Riesling, but more like a modern Chardonnay. Nonetheless, this is a great wine that has held up very well and should be fun for several more years. 18.8/20 points with potential for 19/20 points.

The Robert Mondavi 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve To Kalon Vineyard is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, plus 4% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, but tastes like a Syrah from the Rhone and has blood, herbs, blackberry, black olive, black fruit, some mint and eucalyptus, full body, noticeable barrique, density but only medium structure, medium-long to long finish and is very fruity. We would have expected more. 17.5/20 points.
