High-end Cava, long on the lees, from Recaredo against other bubbles from Champagne and Germany.
Recaredo is one of the new produces who make Cava with a never before seen elegance and a long last on the lees.
The Recaredo 2011 Serral del Vell Brut Nature was 83 months on the lees (degorced 19.03.2019) and consists of 50% Xarel-IO and 50% Macabeu. It has a very fine perlage and minerality and a lot of blossoms. And it is very elegant. 17.5/20 points.
The Recaredo 2007 Brut Nature Gran Reserva (Reserva Particular) is even more elegant. With 117 months on the lees, it has a very fine perlage, minerality and a little bit tannin. It is fresh and very elegant. 18/20 points.
The Recaredo 2006 Turó d‘en Mota Brut Nature is from a single vineyard and was 144 month on the lees (degorced 13.05.2019). It is made from 100% Xarel-IO and combines the elegance with power. It is creamy, mineralic and fresh and has a long finish. 18.5/20 points.
You cannot compare this Cavas with a Champagne and so we decided to compare to German Riesling sparkling.
The Wegeler 2008 Geheimrat J has apricot and yellow plum and is fresh and elegant with a good structure but should be drunken now. 17.8/20 points.
The Diel 2008 Goldloch Riesling Brut Nature (4th bottling) was degorced in March 2019 and so was 115 month on the lees. We were a bit disappointed because we know the first bottling which is a truly great sparkling and one of the best from Riesling. It needs time to open up and show apricot, peach and blossoms and is dense and elegant with a long finish. This bottling 17.5/20 points.
We never exptected that Baron Knyphausen 2003 Herrlichkeit lasts but although it is ripe this bottle was fun. With pancakes, blossoms and some caramel, it is medium- to full-bodied, elegant and reminds of a ripe Riesling. 17.5/20 points.
The Van Volxem 2011 Sekt 1900 was 6 years on the lees and is one of the best Riesling sparklings. With blossoms, apricot, peach, medium-body, it is elegant and balanced with a long finished. It has power and now the perfect ripeness. 18.3/20 points.
To make it a perfect long evening we openend Charles Heidsieck 1995 Blanc des Millenaires at the end. It is a Blanc-de-Blancs and now in its perfect ripeness. We did not make any notes and just enjoyed. We drank this sparkling a lot of times in the last 3 years and its score was between 19 and 19.3. Now with its perfect ripeness it is 19.5/20 points.
