We cannot affort to buy a Maybach car. But we can affort to buy a Maybach wine although it is not cheap. The Materium is one of the best Cabernets from California.

The Maybach 2006 Materium needs a lot of air and then starts with liquorice, blackberry and cassis. It is full-bodied, fresh, mineral, long, dense and slightly sweet but with rather cool aromatic style. With perfect structure and a lot of tannin like a Nebbiolo, it is far too young now. It will need almost a decade before it is on its peak and will last for one or two decades more. So, it is very different from the 2005 Materium which is explossively fruity and sweet and has past its peak now. 18.8/20 points.
