We compared two Pinot Noir from Burgundy and California in the same price range.
The Henri de Villamont 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle is a modern Burgundy with a lot of fruit, especially cherry and raspberry and a little bit of butter. It is medium bodied and fruity and has a medium finish but it also lacks a bit of complexity. 17.5/20 points.
With the same grape variety and the same price category came the Calera 2009 Mount Harlan Pinot Noir Ryan Vineyard. It showed expressive notes of cherry, Amarena, strawberry and a bit dark toast, a full-body, a opulent fruit-sweetness, character, power and a long finish. It is phenolic, dense, powerful and mouth watering yummy. 19/20 points.
