Who & Why

When the Barolo 2010 was released you could notice the high quality but it was clear that these wines needed maturity. Now they start to open up. You don't need one of the big names which are very expensive. Also the lesser-known producers have produced great wines.

Sobrero is one of these lesser-known producers. The Sobrero 2010 Barolo Pernanno Riserva is a classic Barolo with dried rose blossoms, undergrowth, moss, spices, herbs and tar. It is full-bodied and shows the typical fine tannin for the vintage 2010. It is phenolic and well structured. Quite impressive finesse for a Barolo. 18.8/20 points.

Domenico Clerico is famous for his Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra and Percristina. But in 2010 also his Barolo Pajana is a great wine. The Domenico Clerico 2010 Barolo Pajana is a sweet, modern Barolo with black fruits, Amarena, violets and elder wood in the nose. A full-body, fine tannin, density and a long finish with equal notes complete the wine. With aeration it also gets lovely dark chocolate. 18.8/20 points.

The La Spinetta 2010 Barolo Campe displayed its distinctive nose of cassis, violets and blueberries which can be found in any vintage. With a  full-body, slightly melted tannin, phenolic structure, balance and a long finish it is an opulent, modern Barolo. 19/20 points.

The Seghesio 2010 Barolo La Villa is a very classic Barolo with phenolic notes and elder wood. It has a full-body, lots of fine tannins and a medium to long finish. Classic rose blossoms, underbrush and moss appeared after 1 hour of aeration. 18.5/20 points.
