Who & Why

Find out who we are and why we do this: About us

Last year in October we were in Piedmont and were able to taste several Barolo from the 2016 vintage. There has never been a Barolo vintage with such fine tannins and which is so fun to drink when young.

The E. Pira & Figli (Chiara Boschis) 2016 Barolo Cannubi is unfiltered and has a lot of depot. It has rose petals, violets, tar, a full-body, density, huge very fine tannin and a long finish. It is very complex and amazing elegant, you can't stop drinking. 19.5/20 points.

The Conterno-Fantino 2016 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped is the more masculine wine. It has more power and density but a bit less elegance. With violets, blueberries, rose hips and tar, it is full-bodied, dense and balanced. It has a lot of fine tannin and potential for decades of cellaring. It's a perfect accompaniment to a steak or Brasato al Barolo. 19.3/20 points.

Both wines show the high quality of 2016. Although the wines will benefit from further cellaring, you drink them now.
