Many high-end wines have become very expensive. If you search for quality and a good value for money than German Riesling is it.
Unfortunately there are bottle fluctuations of the Gut Hermannsberg 2012 Hermannsberg Riesling Großes Gewächs. This time it was a good bottle: With blossoms, apricot, peach and woodruff, it has full-body, balance, a fresh acidity and a medium long finish. It needs air. With aeration it gets exotic fruit and white chocolate. 18.5/20 points.
The Battenfeld-Spanier 2014 Molsheimer Zellerweg Am Schwarzen Herrgott Riesling Großes Gewächs always needs time to open up. Perhaps it is too young to drink it now. It is sweetish with blossoms, apricot and orange zests. It has medium- to full-body, power, density, an almost long finish and needs some time in the decanter. 17.8/20 points.
There is a special wine Riesling R from Emrich-Schönleber which stays longer in the cask. The result is an amazing complexity and elegance. The Emrich-Schönleber 2016 Monzinger Halenberg Riesling R has blossoms, nutmeg, limes, apricot, peach, a medium- to full-body, a high density, a long finish and a huge complexity. It is fresh, mineral, phenolic and very juicy. It is one of the best Riesling. 19.5/20 points.
