During the blind tasting it appears to be three California wines. But one is from Bordeaux.
I still cannot believe that this cool-climate Syrah comes from the south of California. So I though that it might be from Washington State. The Jonata 2010 Syrah La Sangre de Jonata (Ballard Canyon Santa Ynez Valley) has an opaque colour and expressive aromas of blackberry, blossoms and animalic and slightly sweet notes. With full-body, dark toast, cool fruit and a lot of glycerine, it is balanced, dense and mineral. It is a successful combination of the Rhone and California. 19/20 points.
Martinelli is one of the best producers for Zinfandel, but also the Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are excellent. The style is power with a lot of alcohol which is always perfect integrated. I never saw such perfect balanced wines with so high alcohol volumes before. While the top Zinfandel Jackass Hill is the elegant wine, the Martinelli 2018 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa comes with a lot of power. Although its 16.4% alcohol it is an perfect balanced wine with caramel, blossoms, blackberries and figs. It has full-body and an awesome fruit sweetness, density and a long finish. 19/20 points.
At first it seems to be another Californian wine with cassis, powdered sugar, red peppers, elder berries and a bit of plaka. The Chateau Palmer 2003 Margaux 3ème Grand Cru Classé is full-bodied, balanced, dense with a long finish and lot of fruit. If you like Californian wines then this wine is the Bordeaux for you. 18.8/20 points.
