Friedrich Becker's top wines are very expensive (for a German red wine) and difficult to obtain. After the sensational 2018 Pinot Noir Heydenreich and a recommendation from a friend for 2019 Pinot Noir Heydenreich and 2019 Pinot Noir La Belle Vue, we took advantage of a rare opportunity and bought all three top wines.
The Friedrich Becker 2019 Pinot Noir Heydenreich is even better than its predecessor from 2018. The wine is spicy with cinnamon notes and very complex with medium to full body, perfect balance, a long finish, polished tannins and appears light-footed despite enormous concentration and density. 19.5/20 points.
The Friedrich Becker 2019 Pinot Noir La Belle Vue has lots of sweet cherry and Amarena notes at first, but then tightens up a bit. The wine has medium to full body, lots of dark toast on the palate, medium-long finish, polished tannin and is light on its feet. This is the lightest of the three wines. 19/20 points.
The Friedrich Becker 2019 Pinot Noir Hommage is absolutely perfect. The wine is very expressive, with lots of sweet cherry and Amarena notes, lots of blossoms, full body, a long finish, perfect balance, perfectly polished tannin and lots of complexity on the palate with some adhesive plaster, dark toast and mocha. There is nothing that could be done better about this wine. 20/20 points.
And the conclusion? For German red wines, these wines are expensive, but in an international comparison, these wines are inexpensive in the context of quality, especially compared to Burgundy.
